Delta Police Nab Four Suspected Armed Robbers in Asaba, Recover Pistols and Live Cartridges

Operatives avert potential violent crimes during stop-and-search, patrol operations.

ASABA – The Delta State Police Command has arrested four suspected armed robbers and recovered two pistols along with a live cartridge following proactive stop-and-search and patrol operations in the Asaba metropolis.

The Command announced the breakthroughs in a press release issued on Thursday by its Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, stating that the arrests were made on April 23, 2026.

Fabricated Beretta Recovered

In the first operation, operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) intercepted a 28-year-old suspect, Chinoso Igwemma, at about 4:25 pm along Ugbolu/Asaba Road.

According to the police, Igwemma’s suspicious conduct during a routine stop-and-search prompted a thorough search, which led to the recovery of one fabricated Beretta pistol.

The command assessed that the timely intervention of the operatives “averted a potential violent crime.” The suspect is currently in custody, and investigations are ongoing.

Tricycle Stop Leads to Triple Arrest

In a separate operation, operatives of the Crack Squad, while on routine patrol in the Bonsaac Area of Asaba, intercepted a tricycle carrying three male occupants.

The suspects were identified as Umuadi Benjamin Chinecherem, 30; Nwabueze Kelvin, 28; and Okonkwo Celestine, 30.

A search of the trio and their vehicle led to the recovery of one locally made cut-to-size pistol loaded with one live cartridge.

Preliminary interrogation, the police said, revealed that the suspects are linked to criminal activity and “disposing innocent citizens of their belongings.”

Efforts are currently underway to uncover their network and apprehend other accomplices.

CP Vows Continued Proactive Policing

Reacting to the arrests, the Commissioner of Police for Delta State, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to intelligence-led strategies and proactive policing.

CP Oyeniyi stated that the command’s focus remains on preventing crime and dismantling criminal networks across the state.
