Dangote Refinery Says It’s Ensuring Fuel Abundance, Price Stability in Nigeria

LAGOS – The Dangote Petroleum Refinery announced it is now supplying Nigeria with over 50 million litres of fuel daily, claiming it has eliminated scarcity, stabilized prices, and begun exporting high-quality fuels to international markets.

The refinery’s management stated that this sustained domestic production has fundamentally altered Nigeria’s energy landscape, providing a buffer against global market volatility.

Key Announcements:

· Guaranteed Supply: The facility is consistently supplying over 50 million litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) and other products daily, with offtake sometimes exceeding 52 million litres. It operates a 24-hour loading system capable of dispatching over 1,000 trucks daily.
· Price Stability: The refinery credits its output with helping to maintain relatively stable pump prices in Nigeria despite international fluctuations, noting its operations support foreign exchange conservation.
· World-Class Quality: Nigeria is now consuming domestically refined fuels that meet stringent Euro V specifications, a shift from previous substandard imports. The refinery has exported Nigerian-refined petrol to Europe and jet fuel to the Middle East.
· Expansion & Listing Plans: A major expansion project is underway and slated for completion within three years. Investments in petrochemicals—including polypropylene, base oils, and LPG—are being scaled up. Preparations to list a portion of the refinery on the stock exchange are confirmed, which would allow direct public ownership.

“With its scale, complexity, efficiency and product quality, the refinery is well positioned to compete globally while meeting Nigeria’s domestic needs,” said Dangote Refinery CEO David Bird during a media briefing in Lagos. He emphasized that the project is a “continent-building industrial investment” driving import substitution and job creation.

The refinery asserts that its design allows it to maintain high output even during planned maintenance, ensuring long-term energy security for the country.
