BEL Dialogue 2026: Governance Experts to Lead Conversations on Electoral Integrity, Democratic Accountability

A distinguished panel of professionals drawn from governance, law, public administration and development has been confirmed as discussants for the 2026 edition of the BEL Dialogue, as organisers intensify preparations for the annual forum on democratic governance and institutional accountability.

The panel comprises Dr. (Barr.) Wilfred Latimore Oghenesivbe, JP; Dr. Egondu Grace Ikeatu; Hon. Gibson Akporhe; Amb. Augusta Chibuzor Keneboh; and Professor Andrew Agboro, who are expected to lead discussions on strengthening Nigeria’s democracy ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Announcing the panel, Secretary of the Advisory Board and Executive Director of BEL Dialogue, Mr. Emmanuel O. Enebeli, said the selection of the discussants reflected the organisers’ commitment to bringing together accomplished professionals with vast experience in governance, legal practice, public administration, policy advocacy and civic engagement.

According to him, the discussants will interrogate the theme of this year’s dialogue, “Democracy That Works: Bridging the Gap Between Votes, Results and Institutional Accountability,” with a focus on electoral integrity, institutional transparency, accountable leadership, citizen participation and practical reforms capable of strengthening Nigeria’s democratic institutions.

Enebeli noted that BEL Dialogue has continued to attract respected voices from diverse sectors, creating a credible platform for robust engagement on issues affecting governance and democratic development.

He said participants would have the opportunity to exchange ideas, interrogate policy issues and propose practical solutions aimed at deepening democracy and promoting good governance.

The 2026 BEL Dialogue is scheduled to hold on Thursday, July 30, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at David’s Event Centre, Anwai Road (Opposite Temple Clinic Junction), Asaba.

Former Resident Electoral Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Hon. Mike Igini, will chair the event, while the Delta State Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Hon. Charles Aniagwu, will attend as the Special Guest of Honour.

The interactive session will be moderated by veteran broadcaster and General Manager of Kruzz FM, Asaba, Mr. Lawrence Okpewho.

Expressing optimism about the outcome of the forum, Enebeli said this year’s edition would stimulate meaningful public discourse and produce practical recommendations capable of strengthening democratic institutions, promoting accountability and fostering responsible leadership in Nigeria.

He added that the dialogue remains committed to encouraging constructive engagement among policymakers, professionals, civil society actors and citizens in the collective pursuit of a more transparent, accountable and people-centred democratic system.
