Country music icon, legendary songwriter, singer, actress and philanthropist Dolly Parton has died at the age of 80, bringing to an end a remarkable career that spanned more than six decades and touched millions of lives across the world.

Parton’s death was announced by her nephew and longtime head of security, Bryan Seaver, in an emotional video message shared on social media on behalf of the Parton family.

Seaver said the announcement was one Parton had personally asked him to make years before her death.

“This video announcement is something Dolly asked of me years ago, before I fully absorbed it as a future reality,” he said.

Reflecting on his more than two decades as Parton’s head of security, a role previously held by his father, Larry, Seaver described the moment as one filled with both pride and profound sadness.

“It is an honor, an honor that is mixed with absolute pride and great sadness,” he said.

“But sadness lies with us, not with Dolly. Dolly has lived in the light and is in the arms of Jesus, surely met by Carl, her parents, and countless others who have watched her and longed to meet her in the heavens.”

“You just kind of have to learn to kind of make new plans — but that’s the hardest part.”
