‘A True Democrat’: Imo Youth Group Hails Barrister Sunny Unachukwu, Vows to Back His 2027 National Assembly Bid

Owerri – April 21, 2026 – In a rousing show of political endorsement, a prominent pro-democracy group, Democratic Imo Youths for Good Governance (DIYGG), has showered encomiums on Barrister Sunny Unachukwu, describing him as a resilient nation-builder whose commitment to democracy and the welfare of the people remains unwavering.

The group made the declaration on Tuesday after an enlarged meeting in Owerri, the Imo State capital. In a statement jointly signed by its President, Surveyor Samuel Nwosu, and Secretary, Comrade Chinedu Emeruwa, DIYGG lauded Unachukwu’s sterling leadership qualities and his invaluable contributions to deepening democratic governance in Nigeria.

“Barrister Sunny Unachukwu has remained steadfast in his dedication to the people. His passion for youth empowerment, good governance, and inclusive development is evident in everything he does,” the statement read.

The group, which describes itself as a socio-political organization committed to advancing democratic ideals, went further to express strong confidence in Unachukwu’s ability to deliver effective representation if given the mandate to represent the Mbaitolu/Ikeduru federal constituency in the House of Representatives come 2027.

“After extensive consultations and deliberations, we welcome Barrister Sunny Unachukwu’s decision to join the 2027 National Assembly race. He is, without question, the best man to provide effective, efficient, and responsive representation to the good people of Mbaitolu/Ikeduru,” the group added.

The youth body, which pledged to rally maximum support and “bulk votes” for the African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain, also called on the party’s leadership in Imo State to cede the Mbaitolu/Ikeduru federal constituency ticket to Unachukwu, whom they described as “a man of enormous capacities and the best brain for the plum legislative job.”

Looking beyond the primary election, DIYGG expressed belief that if supported to become senator, though the current endorsement is for a House of Representatives seat, Unachukwu would initiate impactful bills and craft laws that would drive youth empowerment, socio-economic growth, and infrastructural development in the constituency.

In a final appeal to the broader electorate, the group urged all eligible Nigerian citizens to participate in the ongoing nationwide voter registration exercise by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

“The citizenry should ensure they register and collect their Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs). It is the only weapon and power vested on citizens by the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to effect a change in government and vote credible people into leadership saddles at all levels,” the statement concluded.
