TREACHERY IN DELTA NORTH: APC Ward Chairmen Cry Foul Over ‘Vindictive’ Congress, Accuse Defectors of Hijacking Party to Escape ‘Security Scrutiny’

ASABA— A major political implosion is looming in the Delta North Senatorial District of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as Ward Chairmen have risen in fierce rebellion against the party leadership, describing the ongoing congress as a “vindictive” ploy to reward political mercenaries while sidelining the loyal foot soldiers who risked everything for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2023.

In a blistering protest letter addressed to the Delta State APC Chairman, Elder Omeni Sebote, the aggrieved Ward Chairmen alleged that the party has been hijacked by fair-weather defectors who opposed Tinubu during the last election and are now seeking refuge under the APC umbrella to evade “security scrutiny” and cling to political relevance.

Newsbanner has obtained a copy of the explosive letter, which lays bare a deep-seated rot in the party’s internal democracy and threatens to tear the structure apart if urgent steps are not taken.

“We Are Being Victimized for Our Loyalty”

The chairmen, who represent the grassroots engine room of the party, did not mince words in their condemnation of the consensus congress method currently being implemented. They argued that the process falls woefully short of the party’s constitutional provisions and is designed to systematically marginalize founding members.

In a statement that will send shockwaves through the party hierarchy, the chairmen declared: “We have become victims of unflinching support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2023 presidential elections.”

They accused certain individuals, whom they described as former opposition players who contested on rival tickets of defecting to the APC for ulterior motives. “Today, they have become members of our party not because they love our party but because they now seek a political platform to protect themselves from security scrutiny and relaunch themselves into political relevance,” the letter reads.

A Calculated Plot to Weaken Grassroots Resistance?

The ward leaders further alleged that the ongoing manipulation is a calculated move to strip them of influence because they are perceived as obstacles to anti-party activities. They warned that the “new entrants” view them as a threat to any nefarious plots against President Tinubu’s re-election bid.

“We are today being victimized because they believe as ward Chairmen we are unlikely to allow them to do anything negative against Mr. President’s re-election without our resistance,” the protest letter asserted, signaling that the battle for the soul of the party in Delta North is far from over .

Demand for Halt and Power-Sharing Formula

The embattled chairmen are now demanding an immediate halt to the ongoing congress in Delta North. They are calling for a “fresh transparent process” that clearly delineates a power-sharing formula between the long-suffering old guards and the newly arrived defectors.

The letter was jointly signed by a united front of ward chairmen from across the district, including Mr. Frank Asimoye (Aniocha North), Mr. Onwuemene Gabriel (Aniocha South), Pastor Andrew Ehiyem (Ika North East), Mr. Nduka Erikume (Ika South), Mr. Kenneth Akadidi (Ndokwa East), Mr. Ochonogor Benjamin (Ndokwa West), Mr. Okocha Patrick (Aniocha Oshimili South), and Mr. Emma Odogwu Chukwuekwu (Aniocha Oshimili North) .

The letter was also copied to Senator Ned Nwoko, dragging the federal lawmaker into the center of the storm. With tensions this high, political observers in Asaba warn that if the party leadership in the state fails to wade in and halt what appears to be a looming disaster, the APC in Delta North could be heading for a complete meltdown ahead of the 2027 general elections .
