The Delta State Police Command has redeployed the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Jesse division, CSP Chidi Nwabuzor, and ordered a full investigation into allegations he and two other officers extorted ₦2.5 million from a citizen.

The action, ordered by Commissioner of Police Aina Adesola, follows a viral video in which a woman accused the DPO and officers named Bright and Usman of collecting the money with the promise to release her arrested brother.

According to a statement issued on Thursday by Police Public Relations Officer SP Edafe Bright, Constable Bright has been detained. The DPO has been removed from his post and redeployed to Command Headquarters pending the outcome of the probe by the Anti-Extortion Squad (X-Squad).

The alleged victim’s brother, Israel Onojeruo, 20, was arrested on January 1st in connection with an alleged firearms sale.

CP Adesola warned that any officer found culpable would be “decisively dealt with” under the Police Act. He reiterated a zero-tolerance stance against extortion and unprofessionalism, urging the public to use official complaint channels.
