OPINION- Uromi Junction Flyover Project in Agbor: Testament to Gov. Oborevwori’s Pan-Delta Credentials

For the millions of inhabitants, commuters, okada riders, students and transporters who daily ply the ever busy Benin-Agbor-Asaba Express Way, the Uromi Junction axis in Agbor has become notorious for fatal and recurring accidents.

So, when the news filtered in that Governor Oborevwori was set to construct a gigantic flyover at the Junction, people cheered across board.

At the time of the inauguration event yesterday, I was discussing with a retired top BEDC official whose office is located at the heart of the Junction.

The man gave vivid and very gory tales of the thousands of lives lost at the Junction in the past years due to break failures, loss of vehicular control, unpredictable and sudden movement of traffic and so on.

He reeled out the numbers and among them were BEDC staff, students, okada riders, inhabitants, passerbys, travellers etc., all crushed and sent prematurely to graves due to the traffic complexities at the said Junction.

But for me, the beauty of it all is the fact that Gov Oborevwori has continued on sprees of legacy projects that have direct and far-reaching socioeconomic impacts on the lives of Deltans. His keenness and eagle-eye approach to the needs of Deltans are simply becoming legendary.

Inside last week, the Governor was in Ughelli to perform the groundbreaking ceremony of the Otovwodo Flyover. For those in the know, that’s another point that’s remained a nightmare to people living and commuting in that axis.

Add to it the three major flyovers at PTI Junction, DSC Roundabout, and Enerhen Junction and all other infrastructural projects spread across the 3Senatorial Districts, then one begins to see why the Governor continues to garner accolades or encomiums from all and sundry, including from opponents and ardent but now-repentant critics.

However, the greatest of my unfleeting joys is Gov Oborevwori’s resolve to keep faith with his Pan-Delta credentials.

Among the prayers and wishes of his predecessor, Sen Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa during the charged electoral processes of 2023 was the need for Deltans to inherit a pan-Deltan who like him, would not be discriminatory and biased in spreading projects evenly, equitably and justly across the three Districts. That prayer has obviously been given answers in Gov Oborevwori’s ascendancy as Chief Executive of the State.

To show his affirmation and corroboration, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, was effusive with praise for the Governor during his speech at the Uromi Junction Flyover inauguration.

Indeed, Governor Oborevwori has not only been fair and just to the lovely people of Delta Central and South Districts in bequeathal of legacies, so has he been to Anioma region. The facts are unassailable.
